Alert:  U.S. Embassy Dili, Timor-Leste (Sept. 23, 2019)

 Location:  Road on either side of the new, southernmost bridge in Dili

Event:  The U.S. Embassy is expanding its dangerous road advisory as a result of ongoing martial art gang incidents and subsequent police and military operations along Banana Road.  The new advisory covers the section of road between the major intersection closest to Aznitrade Supermarket east to the intersection closest to the Palm Business Center.  This is an expansion of the alert issue July 17, 2019.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid the road between the Aznitrade Supermarket, across the new, southernmost bridge in Dili, east to the Palm Business Center after dark (between 19:30 – 05:00).
  • If you encounter a street brawl while driving, stop and immediately turn around to take an alternate route.
  • If you see a large group of rowdy people by the side of the road after dark, particularly if you are driving a scooter or motorcycle, turn around and take an alternate route.
