On Tuesday, July 14th, the U.S. Embassy’s political section chief Lucy Gillers joined PNTL General Julio Hornai to commemorate a belated World Drug Day at the PNTL headquarters in Caicoli, Dili. Nearly 500 students attended the event, entitled “Say no to drugs.” The U.S. Embassy, in collaboration with several regional and international partners, is supporting a number of initiatives to strengthen the capacity of Timor-Leste’s law enforcement agencies with a combined investment of nearly $9 million, including a $1.1 million program in partnership with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the PNTL’s Border Patrol Unit to strengthen border security in the country which is being funded by the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
