Event: The U.S. Embassy continues to monitor the rapidly changing conditions due to COVID-19 in Timor-Leste and will continue to share information and include pertinent new information in bold for quick reference.
Country-Specific Information:
On March 31, the Government of Timor-Leste (GOTL) extended a State of Emergency (SOE) for the entire country through 23:59 on May 2. Specific requirements of the State of Emergency can be found at the Embassy’s COVID-19 webpage.
On April 8, the GOTL announced that travel by land, sea, or air between Baucau and Viqueque Municipalities and other Timor-Leste municipalities would continue to be restricted through 23:59 on April 17, except in limited situations authorized by the Integrated Crisis Management Center. The travel restriction between Dili Municipality and other municipalities remains through 23:59 on April 17 with limited exceptions authorized by the Integrated Crisis Management Center.
The Government continues to advise that individuals stay at home unless obtaining or assisting in the delivery of goods and services. U.S. citizens are cautioned that the GOTL may impose criminal penalties for non-compliance to its announced directives.
U.S. citizens are advised to continue to practice preventative measures, including wearing face masks and practicing social distancing, and to monitor local news and resources for potential travel restrictions and changes to the Government’s directives.
