Event: The U.S. Embassy continues to monitor the rapidly changing conditions due to COVID-19 in Timor-Leste and will continue to share information and include pertinent new information in bold for quick reference.
A State of Emergency (SOE) has been renewed for all of Timor-Leste through 23:59 on July 1. Specific requirements of the SOE can be found at the Embassy’s COVID-19 webpage.
The Government of Timor-Leste (GOTL) announced that the general home confinement of all persons residing or currently residing in Dili Municipality through June 1 has been extended for 14 days. Current restrictions on land, sea, or air travel between the municipalities of Dili, Bobonaro, and Covalima, and other Timor-Leste municipalities through June 1 have also been extended for 14 days. Travel similarly restricted between the municipalities of Baucau and Viqueque and other Timor-Leste municipalities through June 1 has been extended for seven days. More information about these restrictions, including exceptions, is available here.
Travel is restricted between the aforementioned municipalities and other administrative constituencies, except in cases duly substantiated by reasons of public security, public health, humanitarian assistance, maintenance of public supply systems, or the realization of the public interest.
During the enforcement periods, U.S. citizens are advised to limit outdoor movements as much as possible and should be prepared to provide explanation to the PNTL if requested. U.S. citizens are cautioned that the GOTL may impose criminal penalties for non-compliance to its announced directives.
U.S. citizens are advised to continue to practice preventative measures, including wearing face masks and practicing social distancing, and to monitor local news and resources for potential travel restrictions.
