Health Alert: U.S. Embassy Dili, Timor-Leste (November 3, 2021)

Event:  The U.S. Embassy continues to monitor the rapidly changing conditions due to COVID-19 in Timor-Leste and will continue to share information and include pertinent new information in bold for quick reference.

 Country-Specific Information:

The Government of Timor-Leste (GOTL) renewed a nationwide COVID-19-premised State of Emergency (SOE) through 23:59 on November 28.  The SOE directs individuals to utilize preventative measures, including social distancing, the wearing of face masks, and hand washing.  It also stipulates that in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak in the country, individuals residing in Timor-Leste will be subject to COVID-19 testing or to present certification of full vaccination.  Government institutions may also deny administrative services to those who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or able to provide a negative COVID-19 test result within five days preceding service application.  Additional Timor-Leste-specific COVID-19 information can be found at the U.S. Embassy’s COVID-19 webpage.

U.S. citizens are cautioned that the GoTL may impose criminal penalties for directive non-compliance.  U.S. citizens are advised to monitor local news and resources for potential travel restrictions.
