United States Embassy Dili continues to monitor reports of increased security concerns in Baucau district including an attack on the Baguia police station on March 8. For the Embassy’s U.S. personnel, travel to the Baucau district is strictly limited and travel to the Laga and Baguia sub-districts of Baucau is prohibited. U.S. citizens likewise should use caution if travelling to the Baucau district and avoid the Laga and Baguia sub-districts. U.S. citizens in Baucau should avoid areas of demonstrations and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
Please review your personal security plans; remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news stations for updates. Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.
