U.S. Citizen Services

The U.S. Embassy offers emergency services and routine passport and citizenship services.

Routine services (passport applications and renewals, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, and notarials) are by appointment.  Consular hours are 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays. To make an appointment, please email ConsDili@state.gov.  Please submit appointment requests at least 24 hours in advance, when possible. The Embassy will confirm your appointment prior to your arrival and provide additional guidance, if necessary. Please do not come to the Embassy if you have not received confirmation of your appointment unless it is an emergency.

Applicants should be aware that they may submit passport and Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) applications at this time, but documents will not arrive in Timor-Leste until regular mail services resume. The Consular Section provides notarial services, including certified copies of passports, for a fee of $50 per document.

Please note that only individuals with a need to appear at the appointment will be permitted entry. Furthermore, all visitors to the Embassy are subject to security screening and will not be permitted to bring electronic devices, including cell phones, inside the facility. There are no storage facilities for items, including bags or cell phones, located on the premises and items cannot be left with Embassy staff so please plan accordingly.

Until further notice, all individuals arriving at the Embassy are required to observe COVID-19 health measures, which include hand washing at the hand-washing station outside of the main Embassy guard booth prior to screening. Face masks must be worn at all times during your appointment. A temperature check will take place upon your arrival during your security screening. If you have a temperature that registers outside normal range, you will be asked to reschedule your appointment for a future date. All individuals who have any of the following symptoms – body temperature higher than 37.5 degrees Celsius, cough, sore throat, cold, and respiratory distress or shortness of breath prior to an appointment – are asked to please call or email the Consular Section to reschedule your appointment. If you experience the above symptoms within two days after your appointment, please inform the Consular Section immediately.

We encourage you to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive the latest updates for Timor-Leste as well as the days and hours of American Citizen Services.

For emergencies, please contact the U.S. Embassy at +670 330-2400 extension 2026 or (670) 7723-1328 outside of working hours.
