Travel to Timor-Leste

For U.S. Citizens, a passport valid for six months beyond the intended date of departure from Timor-Leste is required.  Citizens of other countries should check with their consular services to verify passport and visa requirements.  Tourist visas are not required prior to arriving in Timor-Leste, but U.S. travelers arriving in Timor-Leste without a visa will need to pay a $30 fee for the 30-day visa.  There is an additional fee for each 30-day renewal of the tourist visa.  Tourist visas may be issued upon arrival for those entering Timor-Leste by air.  However, if entering Timor-Leste by land, the traveler will need to apply for a visa in advance of travel at a Timor-Leste consulate or embassy.  There are Timor-Leste consulates in Kupang and Atambua, in Indonesia, that may issue Timor-Leste visas.  Please visit the Government of Timor-Leste’s website at http://www.timor-leste.gov.tl/, and the Immigration Services at http://www.migracao.gov.tl/, for the most current visa information.
