On Wednesday, November 16, Ambassador Karen Stanton joined Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL) Rector Francisco Miguel Martins to inaugurate Timor-Leste’s first American Space, ‘UmaAmerika’ at the main campus of UNTL in Dili. UmaAmerika is a center devoted to sharing American culture, fostering innovation and open exchange of information between the U.S. and Timor-Leste. Uma Amerika is the first American-style research and cultural center in the country featuring a high-tech design space and platform to access scientific & research databases open to the general public. Ambassador Stanton noted that “UmaAmerika now joins a family of nearly 700 American corners, centers, and libraries around the world which are committed to providing information about American education and scholarship opportunities; organizing cultural and information programs about the United States; supporting the study and teaching of English; engaging with the alumni of exchange programs; and finally, providing a free space for academic research, discussion, and debate combined with free access to the extensive e-library database.” If you would like to know more about UmaAmerika, please follow UmaAmerika on Facebook.
