On Wednesday, May 24, the U.S. Mission in Timor-Leste co-hosted the 2017 Investigators Conference entitled “Unifying the Justice Sector and Law Enforcement in Timor-Leste,” together with the PNTL and the Australian-supported Timor-Leste Police Development Program (TLPDP) at Beach Garden Hotel in Pantai Kelapa, Dili.
The three-day conference aims to increase the use of the PNTL Incident Management System to improve the efficiency of investigations and prosecutions through Prosecution Liaison Officers and to strengthen communication between prosecutors and investigators to bring about more timely and successful prosecutions of criminal cases.
Several speakers provided presentations during the conference, including from the FBI. The Chief Investigator and Prosecution Liaison Officers from each Municipality, PNTL investigators, prosecutors from each Municipality and other members of the justice sector also attended the event.
